Tempura Bar Tenmusu Ginza Takezou | Tempura Restaurant in Ginza, Tokyo

Freshly fried tempura,
enjoyed at ease in Ginza.

Ginza 2-chome, a three minute walk from Shintomicho Station. Behind the door on the first floor of the Shochiku Building are a counter that wraps around the frying station, unhurried table seats and a private room for up to six. Since opening here in June 2024, we have kept the place easy going: tempura and a drink, without ceremony.

At lunch, tenmusu rice balls are formed with Nita rice from Izumo in Shimane. Red shrimp, whiting and seasonal vegetables are fried to order and paired with the rice, in three to five varieties as you prefer. In the evening, seasonal seafood and vegetable tempura come alongside dishes such as teriyaki Daisen chicken and seared duck breast, finishing with our tempura fried rice or tempura ochazuke with seared cod roe.

Twelve kinds of sake are always poured, four of which change with the season. The wine list holds ten to twelve reds and whites, with champagne, other sparkling wines and wines by the glass. For a date, an anniversary, a business dinner or an evening with friends, settle in and let the sound of the fryer keep you company.

A counter around the fryer

Every dish begins with choosing ingredients through a specialist’s eye for what suits tempura. Seafood and vegetables are bought at their best for the season and finished so that the character of each ingredient comes through.

The counter is laid out around the frying station. You can watch the work up close, right down to the moment the batter takes on colour and the sound of the oil changes.
